Drop/Return Vehicles
OVERVIEW
All primary resources are extracted from planetary deposits via deployable harvesters known as drop/return vehicles, which take up flagship or drone moorings when not deployed. To initiate a harvester mission, simply instruct the flagship to survey the local planet with probes, and/or deploy harvester vehicles to the surface.
The number of probes available depends on the phase and quantity of survey modules installed, and any number of them may be used on the same day, once per day. You will be notified immediately with a list of scan results corresponding to the number of probes deployed, from which you may select a precise location to deploy the DRV itself, provided you carry enough reactive propellant to fuel the mission.
Pre-deployment scans are not necessary for surface extraction, but you will not know the harvester's yield until it has completed the drilling process. Note that outdated scans may not be reliable, and previously depleted deposits will yield particularly unsatisfactory results.
